Diageo Jobs Blow despite huge profits of more than 2.0bn
28 August, 2009
Diageo, the name behind drinks such as Guinness, Smirnoff and Johnnie Walker, said its pre-tax profits fell slightly in the year to June 30, down from £2.09bn in 2008.
It said the global downturn had affected all its markets, although Europe was hit harder than Asia and North America.
Diageo is under fire in Scotland where it plans to cut hundreds of jobs.
Around 700 jobs will go at the Johnnie Walker bottling plant in Kilmarnock, with another 200 facing the axe at the Port Dundas distillery in Glasgow.
